J’exprime correctement un regret (regret)

Pour exprimer un regret, j’utilise les structures suivantes :

  • Subject + regret + gerund or ing-form
  • Subject + regret + noun or noun group or pronoun
  • Subject + should (not) + have + past participle
  • Subject + ought (not) to + have + past participle
  • Subject + wish + subject + had (not) + past participle
  • If only + subject + had (not) + past participle

Example: I regret buying this phone. It’s not sophisticated. 

He wishes he hadn’t missed the meeting.

We should have called the police earlier. 

J’exprime correctement un souhait (wish)

Pour exprimer un souhait, j’utilise les structures suivantes :

  • Subject + wish + object
  • Subject + wish + subject + Preterit or past simple
  • Subject + wish + subject + would (not) + base form
  • If only + subject + Preterit
  • It’s (high) time + Subject + Preterit
  • It’s (high) time + for + object + infinitive

Example:  I wish you a happy new year.

I wish he wouldn’t talk so loudly.

It’s high time she got married. She is 35 now.

It’s time for the kids to come back home.

J’exprime correctement des similarités et des différences

Similarités (similarities) 

Pour exprimer des similarités, j’utilise les expressions suivantes :

[Like / similar / identical / similar to / similarly / alike / the same / to have a lot in common / as well as ]

Example: He speaks English like a native speaker.

These two bags are similar.

The weather in my country is similar to the weather in yours.

I have met two sisters that look alike / identical / the same.

Our schools have a lot in common.

Differences (Differences)

Pour exprimer des différences, j’utilise les expressions suivantes :

[different / different from / unlike / to have nothing in common / on the contrary / contrary to]

Example: I can swim unlike my sister.

She goes to school on bike, on the contrary, her brother goes on foot.

Our suggestion is different from theirs.

These communities have nothing in common.
